What Adult MHFA teaches
Adult Mental Health First Aid teaches learners how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance-use challenges.
Learners practice an action plan for approaching someone, listening without judgment, offering reassurance, and encouraging appropriate professional, peer, or community support.
Mental Health First Aid does not train learners to diagnose, provide therapy, or replace emergency or clinical services.
It builds confidence to recognize possible concerns, respond appropriately, and support connection to further help.

Instructional content is continuously supported by facilitated discussions, questions and reflection, individual and small-group activities, breakout-room discussions, practice scenarios, case examples, skills application, knowledge checks, and opportunities to connect the material to workplace and community situations. Learners should remain available for the complete 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Eastern session.
